Analysis: Gay's miss came from 58 yards out and hit the left upright to end the first half. It was his second miss from 50-plus yards on the season in 10 attempts. Analysis: Gay was waived by the Buccaneers after he lost out on a kicking competition to Ryan Succop at the close of training camp. With plenty of turnover in kicking games around the league, he should be able to land a new job at some point this season.

Remains locked in tight battle
Gay remains in a heated competition with Elliott Fry for the placekicker job, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports. "I think the competition is close -- I think it's real close," said Special Teams Coordinator Keith Armstrong. "I think with Matt, the thing I learned is he's got to learn to be consistent.
