ACL tear confirmed
Hurd's agent confirmed Monday that the wideout suffered a torn ACL during Sunday's practice, Ali Thanawalla of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Analysis: San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan expressed concern that Hurd's knee injury might be a torn ACL, and the 49ers' worst fears were confirmed a day later by the wideout's agent, Doug Hendrickson. The injury is yet another unfortunate setback for the versatile 6-foot-4 receiver, who was hoping to push for regular snaps in 2020 after missing his entire rookie season due to a stress fracture in his back. Hurd will undergo surgery in a couple of weeks, effectively ending his 2020 season before it…read more

Getting tests for possible ACL tear
The 49ers are worried Hurd's knee injury is an ACL tear, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Hurd suffered the injury Sunday and is scheduled for an MRI on Monday. The 49ers already have Deebo Samuel (foot) and Richie James (wrist) absent from practice, plus Travis Benjamin opted out of the 2020 season. The team is bringing in Jaron Brown for a workout, per Garafolo.

May have injured leg
Hurd suffered an apparent leg injury during Sunday's practice, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Analysis: While working on the side with a member of the 49ers' training staff, Hurd fell to the ground awkwardly and remained there for a few minutes before walking off the field under his own power. Neither coach Kyle Shanahan nor the 49ers have commented on the injury, so perhaps the team is waiting for the the results of upcoming exams before confirming the nature of the issue.

Cleared from injury
Hurd (back) has been medically cleared and resumed running this offseason, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Hurd missed all but two preseason games during his rookie campaign with a stress fracture in his lower back. The 2019 third-round pick put his red-zone abilities on display with two touchdown grabs from inside the 20 in his first exhibition action last year. Standing at 6-foot-4, Hurd is easily San Francisco's tallest receiver, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him used when the offense gets closer to the end zone. The 49ers lost Emmanuel Sanders and Marquise Goodwin this offseason, and its…read more

Not fully cleared
General manager John Lynch is optimistic Hurd (back) will be ready for the start of the 49ers' offseason program, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. "For [Hurd's back] to completely heal, it happens on different timelines," Lynch said Tuesday. "We found that [Hurd's] has been stubborn. We think he's been nearing towards a much better place where he'll be cleared for all activities."
Analysis: A mid-February report suggested Hurd had already made a full recovery from the stress fracture in his back, but Lynch sung a different tune when he spoke to reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine. A 2019 third-round pick, Hurd made some noise in the preseason opener with a pair of touchdowns but ended up missing the entire regular season. He may get a chance to compete for a starting job in 2020, especially if Emmanuel Sanders signs with a new team.

Healthy after lost rookie season
Hurd has made a full recovery from the back injury that sidelined him for his entire rookie season, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The third-round pick should be ready for the start of the 49ers' offseason program in April after failing to see any action in 2019 upon suffering the injury in the preseason. With Emmanuel Sanders scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent, it isn't out of the question for Hurd to compete for a starting job at receiver, though a backup role seems more likely. Listed at 6-foot-4, 230 pounds, Hurd played running back for most of his college career and has been discussed as a potential tight…read more

No tread in rookie season
Hurd (back) didn't play in 2019.
Analysis: Hurd missed the first month, but the team was optimistic he'd shake off his back injury. However, the rookie third-round pick was placed on IR on Oct. 3, and he was never activated. The 49ers clearly thought a lot of Hurd's potential, but they rode the coattails of versatile rookie wideout Deebo Samuel this year. Emmanuel Sanders will be an unrestricted free agent in March, and even if he's re-signed, Hurd should have a chance to battle Kendrick Bourne for a starting role in 2020.

Unlikely to play this season
Hurd (back) is a long shot to play this season, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Hurd's rookie campaign has been plagued by a stress fracture in his lower back, which has spurred coach Kyle Shanahan to waffle a few times on his potential to suit up. A third-round pick in the 2019 draft, Hurd has six more chances in the regular season to return to full health and get the blessing of the 49ers' medical staff.

Could return Week 13
Hurd (back) will be evaluated next week with the hope of eventually coming back from injured reserve, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: Coach Kyle Shanahan wasn't as optimistic a couple weeks ago, though he never ruled out the possibility of a return. Hurd won't be eligible to play until Week 13 against Baltimore, and he's unlikely to see large snap counts on offense unless the 49ers' receiving corps is crushed by other injuries. The rookie third-round pick hasn't played in a game since preseason but was kept on the 53-man roster through Week 4.
