Receives nod from GM
Broncos general manager George Paton said of Lock and the team's quarterback situation, "We're always going to bring in competition at every position, quarterback as well, but I like the track Drew's on," Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The Broncos made an attempt to trade for former Lions' signal-caller Matthew Stafford in February, according to James Palmer of NFL Network. Such a development renders Lock's status atop the quarterback depth chart as tentative, but Paton has been publicly upbeat about Lock, stating that he has "all the traits you look for in a quarterback." The 24-year-old was tied for an NFL-worst 15 interceptions thrown during the 2020 campaign, while the Broncos QB position as a whole posted bottom-two…read more

Completes sophomore slump
Lock finished the 2020 season having completed 57.3 percent of his 443 attempts for 2,933 yards, 16 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.Ā He added 160 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 44 carries.
Analysis: Lock showed promise during his five-game audition in 2019, only to finish 2020 having provided little additional clarity as to whether he can be Denver's quarterback of the future. Potential explanations abound: a truncated offseason, a new scheme, a lost star receiver in Courtland Sutton and a very young supporting cast. Still, Lock's tendency to put the ball up for grabs deep down the field rather than take the underneath throw often made those excuses moot. There is some reason for optimism,…read more

Has fate in new GM's hands
Though coach Vic Fangio is safe, John Elway's decision to move to a new role within the team and hire a new general manager may affect Lock's future, Benjamin Allbright of KOA News Radio reports.
Analysis: As Allbright notes, Elway was inclined to give Lock a third season to prove that he's the team's answer at quarterback. Now, a new GM -- presumably one without any ties to the Missouri product -- will head into the offseason with the ninth overall pick and some potential veteran options on the market. Lock, playing in a new offense and with a very young supporting cast, showed strides during Denver's final six games even though the stat line seldom looked pretty. During that span, he completed…read more

Big day in losing effort
Lock completed 25 of 41 passes for 339 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 32-31 loss to the Raiders.
Analysis: He also added seven rushing yards on two carries. Lock set a new season high in passing yards in the season's final game and avoiding committing a turnover for the first time since Week 1, but his overall numbers on the campaign were still mediocre at best as he finished with a completion rate of under 60 percent, a 6.8 YPA and a 16:15 TD:INT through 13 games. With the Broncos holding the ninth overall pick in what is shaping up to be a loaded quarterback draft class in 2021, Lock may have…read more

Two more picks in Sunday's loss
Lock completed 24 of 47 passes for 264 yards and two interceptions while adding 15 rushing yards and a touchdown on five carries in Sunday's 19-16 loss to the Chargers.
Analysis: While the second INT came on a hail mary at the end of the game, the first came in the red zone on the Broncos' first possession, as Lock's decision-making once again proved to be questionable. The second-year quarterback is back to being underwater on the season with a 14:15 TD:INT, and his lack of development this year could encourage the Denver front office to select another QB in next year's draft with what could be a top-10 pick. Lock and the Broncos will close out a disappointing campaign…read more

Another costly fumble
Lock completed 20 of 32 pass attempts for 132 yards and one touchdown, adding five rushes for 37 yards with one lost fumble during Saturday's 48-19 loss to the Bills.
Analysis: The sophomore signal-caller committed a lost fumble for a second straight game, with Saturday's instance resulting in a 21-yard scoop-and-score for Buffalo's Jerry Hughes. Denver's offense has committed a turnover in 14 consecutive games, as Lock's 13 interceptions stand behind only Carson Wentz for the 2020 league high. Despite Lock posting a career-best 149.5 passer rating last Sunday in a win over Carolina, questions regarding his future with the organization may loom into the offseason…read more

Enjoys sterling passing day
Lock completed 21 of 27 pass attempts for 280 yards and four touchdowns, adding four yards over six carries while losing a fumble during Sunday's 32-27 win against Carolina.
Analysis: Lock's second-quarter fumble led to a Panthers TD two plays later, but he otherwise enjoyed his most impressive statistical outing of 2020. Not once all season entering Sunday had the sophomore signal-caller thrown multiple TDs without committing an interception, while 280 passing yards marked Lock's second-greatest total of the year. Falls short on SNF
Lock (undisclosed) completed 15 of 28 pass attempts for 151 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 22-16 loss to Kansas City.
Analysis: Lock returned from a precautionary one-week absence that resulted in all three of the Broncos' quarterbacks on the 53-man roster sitting out Week 12 entirely. The enigmatic franchise quarterback appeared to be cool and collected on the road as a two-score underdog, leading his team to a halftime lead against the Chiefs with a little help from his defense. The 24-year-old even had a chance to win the contest in the closing moments until reality reared its ugly head and saw him throw his second…read more

Back from COVID-19 list
The Broncos activated Lock (undisclosed) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday, Aric DiLalla of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Lock was placed on the list after the rest of the Broncos quarterback room was deemed to be high-risk close contacts of Jeff Driskel, who tested positive for COVID-19 last Thursday. All of Lock, Brett Rypien and practice-squad member Blake Bortles were ineligible to play this past Sunday against the Saints, leaving QB in the hands of practice-squad wide receiver Kendall Hinton. With Lock back in the building, he'll be under center for Denver's next game Sunday night at Kansas City.

Out Week 12, but COVID negative
Lock continued to test negative for COVID-19 on Sunday, but he'll remain ineligible to play in the Broncos' Week 12 game against the Saints after being deemed a high-risk close contact of No. 3 quarterback Jeff Driskel, who tested positive Thursday, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
Analysis: Along with Lock, top backup Brett Rypien and practice squad quarterback Blake Bortles were also added to the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday, leaving all three players ineligible to play Sunday. According to Renck, Rypien and Bortles also remain negative for the coronavirus, so all three likely would have cleared the NFL's COVID-19 protocols by Tuesday had the league chosen to move the game back two days like the Broncos requested. Instead, the game will be held Sunday as originally scheduled,…read more

Unavailable for Sunday's game
Lock will be placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list and is ineligible to play Sunday against the Saints, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Schefter relayed that Lock, Brett Rypien and Jeff Driskel were all considered high-risk close contacts to an infected person, along with practice squad quarterback Blake Bortles. None of the players were wearing masks at that time. In turn, they won't be available for Week 12. According to Mike Klis of 9News Denver, Kendall Hinton will elevated from the practice squad to start at quarterback Sunday.

Pulled from practice
Lock was pulled from practice Saturday out of abundance of caution stemming from Jeff Driskel's positive COVID-19 test Thursday, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Analysis: Klis goes on to suggest that Lock, along with backups Brett Rypien and Blake Bortles (on practice squad), was pulled from Saturday's practice in an effort to maintain NFL protocols regarding COVID-19 contract tracing. All players have been repeatedly tested since Driskel's positive test and every test has come back negative, reinforcing the fact each player has been asymptomatic. Quiet performance in win
Lock completed 18 of 30 passes for 270 yards and an interception in Sunday's 20-13 win over the Dolphins. He also gained 23 rushing yards on two carries.
Analysis: It was another poor fantasy performance from Lock, who got picked off for the sixth straight game and has a 6:11 TD:INT over that stretch, but the Denver pass rush ended up shutting down Miami's offense and didn't need much help to get the team in the win column. Lock could be headed for another tepid effort in Week 12 against a Saints defense that just held Matt Ryan and the Falcons to nine points.

Active as expected Week 11
Lock (ribs) is active for Sunday's Week 11 tilt against the Dolphins.
Analysis: As expected, the second-year signal-caller will suit up after suffering some bruising and a strain in his rib area during a Week 10 loss to the Raiders. Therefore, Broncos skill-position players should be deployed as usual, but they'll face a surging Dolphins defense that's allowed just 194.5 passing yards per road contest -- the second-lowest figure in the AFC -- thus far.

Expected starter Sunday
Lock (ribs) is expected to start at quarterback in Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Lock suffered a "pretty severe strain and bruising" to his ribs in last week's loss to the Raiders, but he battled through it in practice this week and will give it a go Sunday. While he's still officially questionable, Lock is expected to be officially cleared when the Broncos reveal their inactive list 90 minutes before the 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff. Brett Rypien will be Lock's primary backup in case he aggravates the injury.

Listed as questionable for Week 11
Lock (ribs) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.
Analysis: While coach Vic Fangio acknowledged that Lock was "a little sore" Friday after he was cleared to resume Thursday, Fangio added that he "didn't see too much altering" in the quarterback's delivery. According to Mike Klis of 9News Denver, Fangio noted that the Broncos would likely decide on a starter for the Week 11 matchup by the end of the day Saturday, so fantasy players should have a good idea whether Lock will be ready to go well in advance of Sunday's 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff. Likely limited again Friday
Lock (ribs) is expected to be limited at Friday's practice and continue splitting quarterback reps with Brett Rypien, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Analysis: The 24-year-old is apparently trending in the right direction for Sunday's matchup with the Dolphins, but he isn't expected to significantly increase his practice work in the Broncos' final practice of the week. Lock seems likely to be considered questionable for Week 11, but his status won't receive official clarity until the injury report is released later Friday.

"I would like to be (available to play)," Lock said Thursday. "Obviously I'll give my opinion and it's going to be I want to play, but in the end it's not 100 percent up to me what happens." Analysis: Per James Palmer of NFL Network, Lock -- who didn't practice Wednesday -- is in line to see some reps during the team portion of practice Thursday. While the QB's return to the field bodes well for his chances of suiting up Sunday against the Dolphins, Lock will have to escape practice (both Thursday and Friday) without any setbacks in order to garner the start this weekend.

Analysis: Coach Vic Fangio noted that Lock's ability to play Sunday against the Dolphins will depend on a few factors that will be evaluated as the week rolls along, while adding that the team wants the quarterback to see some practice reps in advance of the weekend. Could practice later in week
Lock (ribs) isn't "expected to do much, if anything" in practice Wednesday, but the Broncos are hopeful that he'll be able to increase his activity in workouts by the end of the week, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Though he played every snap Sunday in the Broncos' 37-12 loss to the Raiders, Lock emerged from the game with a muscle strain and bruising near his ribs. The core injury has prompted the Broncos to label Lock as day-to-day, and Rapoport predicts the signal-caller will be in line for more of a rest day Wednesday as the team begins Week 11 prep. Status hazy for Week 11
Lock is dealing with a "pretty severe strain and bruising" to his ribs and is considered day-to-day, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Schefter adds that Lock avoided broken bones, but the Broncos are still uncertain if the 24-year-old quarterback will be ready for this Sunday's game against the Dolphins. Lock was clearly playing through pain in last week's loss to the Raiders, and his performance suffered, as he completed just 49 percent of his passes and threw four picks. Lock is nursing a muscle strain around his ribs, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Coach Vic Fangio has shed doubt on whether Lock will practice Wednesday, according to Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com, and Adam Schefter of ESPN has reported that the 24-year-old could be unable to face the Dolphins on Sunday. Even in the event that Lock is forced to miss a week, the fact that he's avoided any broken bones would seem to indicate that his injury isn't a long-term issue. Lock (ribs) may not be able to suit up against the Dolphins on Sunday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Lock managed to stay on the field for the entirety of Sunday's 37-12 loss to the Raiders despite playing with obvious discomfort, but it sounds like his chances of playing Week 11 truly are up in the air. Coach Vic Fangio said Monday that Lock is "pretty sore" and may not practice Wednesday, per Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com. Analysis: Lock showed obvious discomfort during Sunday's 37-12 loss to the Raiders in which he threw one score and four interceptions, but he managed to play through his injury the entire contest. Fangio also said there's "a chance" Lock misses Week 11, per Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com, but the second-year quarterback hasn't yet been ruled out. Playing through core issue
Lock played through an oblique/abdomen injury during Sunday's 37-12 loss to the Raiders, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Analysis: Lock had a miserable 1:4 TD:INT ratio during Sunday's loss, but it's possible that at least some amount of his performance issues can be blamed on playing through core pain. The second-year signal-caller dealt with obvious discomfort against the Raiders, but the fact that he managed to remain in the game for all four quarters provides reason to be optimistic that he won't be forced to miss time. Turnover bug continues to bite
Lock completed 23 of 47 pass attempts for 257 yards, throwing one touchdown and committing four interceptions during Sunday's 37-12 loss to the Raiders. He also ran for seven yards on two attempts, fumbling once but recovering the loose ball himself.
Analysis: Lock threw a pair of picks to safety Jeff Heath in the first half, then gifted one each to Carl Nassib and Nick Kwiatkoski during the fourth quarter. The sophomore signal-caller avoided committing an INT over his first two starts of the season -- including Week 2 against Pittsburgh when he exited after five attempts due to a right shoulder injury -- but he's now thrown to an abysmal 6:10 TD:INT since making his Week 6 return. Scores three times, but takes loss
Lock completed 25 of 48 passes with 313 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, adding seven rushes for 47 yards and an additional score during Sunday's 34-27 loss to the Falcons.
Analysis: Lock has contributed six touchdowns over his past five quarters of play, though his team has only emerged victorious in one of the two contests involved -- that of course coming last week when he threw a walk-off one-yard TD pass to KJ Hamler. It is inarguable Lock has been a more explosive passer of late, with a 5:2 TD:INT ratio and 280.5 passing yards per game his past two outings. Analysis: Lock led the Broncos to an impressive comeback victory, tossing all three of his touchdowns in the second half. The effort was capped by a one-yard toss to KJ Hamler as time ran out in the fourth quarter. Two more picks, this time in loss
Lock went 24-for-40 passing with 254 yards and two interceptions during Sunday's 43-16 loss to the Chiefs. He also registered eight yards on three carries with a rushing score.
Analysis: The second-year signal-caller has struggled in his return from an early-season shoulder injury, throwing to a 53.1 percent completion rate with no passing TDs and four INTs over the past two weeks. Denver's defense did enough last week to cover up the sophomore's errors, forcing three turnovers and allowing just 12 points to New England. Lock (shoulder) completed 10 of 24 passes for 189 yards and two interceptions in Sunday's 18-12 win over the Patriots. He also registered five rushing attempts for minus-1 yard.
Analysis: Lock found Tim Patrick for a 41-yard gain on his first pass, but things only went downhill from there. He failed to lead the offense into the end zone, settling for six field goals, and Lock's fourth-quarter miscues almost cost his team the game. Active for Sunday's game
Lock (shoulder) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Patriots.
Analysis: Lock last suited up on Sept. 20, but the postponement of the Broncos' originally-scheduled Week 5 contest to this Sunday has afforded the second-year signal caller the added time he needed to be ready to return to the lineup following a two-game absence. Lock's return, along with that of running back Phillip Lindsay (toe), helps offset the Week 6 unavailability of leading rusher Melvin Gordon (illness) and top tight end Noah Fant (ankle).

Lock (shoulder) is expected to start under center Sunday versus the Patriots, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Analysis: Lock's status will become official about 90 minutes before Sunday's 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff, but he has avoided a setback and is good to go. The 2019 second-round pick was serviceable through the first two games, completing 23 of 24 passes (62 percent) for 236 yards and a touchdown. He'll be without both Noah Fant (ankle) and Melvin Gordon (illness) on Sunday, so Jerry Jeudy, Tim Patrick and Phillip Lindsay are expected to be Lock's top targets against the Patriots' sturdy pass defense.

While it looks like Lock will be a go Sunday, it's worth monitoring the entire Week 6 NFL slate due to the potential of COVID-19 related postponements.

Second straight full practice
Lock (shoulder) turned in a second straight full practice Thursday, Ryan O'Halloran of The Denver Post reports. "There were no setbacks [after Wednesday's practice]," Fangio said of Lock, who was sidelined for Denver's previous two games. "He definitely could start Sunday as it looks now, but we'll hold on making that final. He had a good practice [Thursday]."
Analysis: While Fangio stopped short of saying that Lock would reclaim starting duties Sunday in New England, the second-year quarterback should take back that role if he comes out unscathed Friday in the team's final practice of Week 6. Analysis: Lock missed Denver's last two games due to a strained shoulder, but his ability to practice in full to begin Week 6 puts him in position to reclaim starting duties Sunday against the Patriots. According to Nick Kosmider of The Athletic, head coach Vic Fangio has yet to announce that Lock will be fit to start this weekend, but that should merely be a formality if he's able to continue practicing fully Thursday and Friday.

Should be ready Week 6
Coach Vic Fangio said Sunday that Lock (shoulder) will likely be ready to start for the Broncos in the team's next game Week 6 at New England, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports. "The extra week should help...we'll see how he progresses the next 72 hours, see how much better he gets, and go from there," Fangio said of Lock.
Analysis: The Patriots and Broncos were initially scheduled to play Sunday in Week 5, but due to three positive COVID-19 test results among New England players over the past week, the game was pushed back to Monday and then postponed to Week 6. Lock (shoulder) and the Broncos won't play the Patriots on Monday after the game was postponed until Week 6 due to a third positive COVID-19 test in the New England organization within the past eight days, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: The Broncos and Patriots are now tentatively scheduled to play Sunday, Oct. 18 in Week 6, which was originally a scheduled bye week for New England. Denver, meanwhile, had been in line to host the Dolphins, but Miami now looks poised to take its bye Week 6. Lock (shoulder) had been listed as questionable heading into Monday's contest and was uncertain to play, but Denver's starting quarterback should be ready to return from a two-game absence if the Patriots are able to host the Broncos next…read more

Listed as questionable
Lock (right shoulder) is listed as questionable for Monday's game.
Analysis: The extra day of preparation certainly appears to have benefitted the Broncos as Lock registered a second straight day of limited participation in practice. While Monday's matchup is likely a difficult one from a fantasy perspective, star cornerback Stephen Gilmore will not play after testing positive for COVID-19 earlier this week, which could help Lock if he's able to take the field. The Broncos would certainly like the second-year QB to start if he's deemed healthy enough to, though fantasy…read more

Not ruled out for Monday
Coach Vic Fangio indicated Friday that Lock (right shoulder) has a chance to play in Monday's game against the Patriots, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
Analysis: Fangio wants to see how the quarterback progresses leading up to game time, but the extra day of preparation afforded by the Broncos' Week 5 game being moved back from Sunday to Monday is helpful in that regard. If, however, the team decides to play it safe with Lock, Brett Rypien would receive a second straight start versus New England.

Still limited at practice
Lock (right shoulder) remained limited at practice Thursday, Ryan O'Halloran of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: While Lock is clearly moving in the right direction, coach Vic Fangio isn't quite ready to sign off on the QB returning to action in Week 4, noting that "besides just the throwing, which is the obvious evaluator, you also have to know if he's capable physically and mentally to take a hit or go to the ground." With that in mind, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News believes that Brett Rypien is trending toward starting Sunday's game against the Patriots. Added clarity on that front should arrive no later…read more

Set for limited practice
Lock (shoulder) will practice on a limited basis Wednesday, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
Analysis: Lock's limited session Wednesday signifies his first recorded practice work since suffering a rotator/labral injury to his right throwing shoulder Week 2. The Broncos will evaluate Lock in practice as the week continues before making a final decision on his availability for Sunday's game in New England, but the second-year signal looks as though he has a legitimate chance of playing this weekend. Takes in practice from sideline
Lock was a spectator at the part of the Broncos' practice open to the media Tuesday, Aric DiLalla of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Lock was knocked out of the Broncos' Week 2 loss in Pittsburgh with what was later termed a rotator/labral issue in his right throwing shoulder. The given timeline for a recovery was 2-to-6 weeks, so he reached the front end of that window last week. Tuesday's session was an unofficial one, so Lock's true status won't be updated until Denver releases its first Week 5 injury report Wednesday. May be back Week 5
Broncos head coach Vic Fangio said Tuesday that Lock (shoulder) may be ready to play in Denver's Week 5 game Oct. 11 at New England, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Denver is facing a quick turnaround Week 4 with a Thursday night game against the Jets, so Lock will be sidelined for a second straight game with the strained right rotator cuff/labral injury he sustained in the Week 2 loss at Pittsburgh. The Broncos' decision not to place Lock on injured reserve had already implied the signal-caller had some hope of avoiding a three-game absence, but he'll still need to ramp up his practice activity next week to have a realistic chance at suiting up against…read more

IR move not expected
The Broncos don't plan to place Lock (shoulder) on injured reserve, as the organization believes he has a chance to return to action in less than three weeks, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Lock's rotator cuff/labral injury will keep him sidelined for at least Weeks 3 and 4, after which he'll be re-evaluated ahead of the Broncos' Week 5 game against New England. The quarterback was provided with a loose 3-to-8-week timeline for his recovery after being diagnosed with the shoulder injury, so the possibility remains that he'll be sidelined until after the team's Week 8 bye. Will be evaluated in two weeks
Lock (shoulder) is slated to miss at least two weeks before the Broncos evaluate his injury again, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Lock suffered a rotator/labral issue in his right shoulder during Sunday's loss to the Steelers. It looks as though the second-year signal-caller's earliest opportunity to retake the field will come Week 5 versus New England, and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that the Broncos expect to have Lock back before their Week 8 bye. Will miss 2-to-6 weeks
Lock suffered a rotator/labral issue in his right shoulder and will miss 2-to-6 weeks, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Analysis: Lock underwent an MRI that changed the diagnosis from a sprained AC joint to a rotator/labral issue, but the timeline for his return remains the same. For the time being, Jeff Driskel is expected to start under center after finishing this past Sunday's loss to Pittsburgh following Lock's injury.

Lock sustained a sprained AC joint in his right shoulder in Sunday's loss to the Steelers and is expected to miss 2-to-6 weeks, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Lock will undergo an MRI on Monday to confirm the severity of his injury. Assuming the projected timeline holds, Jeff Driskel, who replaced Lock in Sunday's loss, looks to be in line for a least a couple of starts at quarterback.

Will have tests on shoulder
Lock will undergo tests on his right (throwing) shoulder Monday, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Analysis: Though Lock sported a sling when he addressed the media after Sunday's 26-21 loss to the Steelers, the QB said he'll take "it day-by-day," adding that he's "optimistic about it," Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site notes. Suffers second loss as starter
Lock completed 22 of 33 pass attempts for 216 yards and a touchdown during Monday's 16-14 loss to Tennesee. He also picked up five yards on three rushing attempts, fumbling twice but losing possession neither time.
Analysis: The second-year signal-caller had some difficulties collecting snaps from center Lloyd Cushenberry at various points throughout the contest, but he was mostly in sync with his young skill-position group. Noah Fant and Tim Patrick each pulled in 80-plus percent of their intended targets, though a pair of drops from first-round rookie Jerry Jeudy will be something to clean up for next week. Lock impressed during Sunday's practice, Benjamin Allbright of KOA News Radio reports.
Analysis: Allbright, in particular, noted a beautiful deep ball Lock uncorked to Courtland Sutton. Lock impressed during his five-start audition to end the 2019 season with quarterback ratings of over 90 in three games despite playing with a depleted offensive line and little in the way of skill players. Gets in work with receivers
Lock recently met with a few teammates for a throwing session, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
Analysis: Lock had been riding the pandemic out with family in Missouri before recently returning to Denver. Renck did not report which members of Denver's receiving corps participated in the session, but any increased familiarity with his targets will be good for Lock heading into Year 2. Gets huge bump to supporting cast
The Broncos invested three of their five picks during the first three rounds of the draft on offense, building around Lock for his sophomore campaign, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Lock went from second-round pick to injured reserve to surprise 4-1 starter all within the course of a few months. He flashed some big-time ability, particularly in Week 14 against Houston, despite having little in the way of established weapons opposite Courtland Sutton. That changed in a big way Thursday and Friday when the Broncos selected wide receivers Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler in the first and second rounds, respectively, and followed up with the selection of Lloyd Cushenberry in the…read more

Unlikely to be tested in camp
Lock appears to have little competition for the starting job after the signing of journeyman Jeff Driskel as the presumptive QB2, Benjamin Allbright of KOA News Radio reports.
Analysis: Lock was mostly solid, but showed flashes of real promise down the stretch during his 4-1 tenure as the Broncos' starting quarterback. That didn't prevent some from calling for Denver to bring in a veteran to push Lock in 2020. That hasn't happened, however, and while Driskel has the athleticism to complement Lock's style, his 1-7 career record as a starter -- albeit on some bad teams -- is unlikely to trigger a camp battle. Acknowledged as top dog
General manager John Elway acknowledged that Lock is "the guy" in Denver, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
Analysis: Lock's 64.1 percent completion rate as a rookie was actually better than what he posted in any of his four seasons at Missouri. That's not to say concerns about accuracy or pocket presence can now be totally dismissed, but the 2019 second-round pick at least played well enough to earn the starting job for Week 1 of 2020. Gets new OC
Lock will have a new offensive coordinator in 2020 after the Broncos officially appointed former Giants head coach Pat Shurmur to the position Tuesday.
Analysis: Shurmur's scheme averaged 4.5 plays of 20 or more yards per game over two seasons in New York, good for sixth in the league, per Patrick Smyth, Denver's Executive Vice President of Public and Community Relations. Despite having the aging Eli Manning under center in 2018 and then rookie Daniel Jones at quarterback for New York in 2019, Shurmur has developed a reputation as a play caller capable of making defenses uncomfortable downfield. Likely to remain starter in 2020
General manager John Elway said Monday that it "is not realistic" for the Broncos to turn to options other than Lock for the Broncos' starting quarterback job in 2020, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Analysis: Elway's comments don't come as much of a surprise after Lock guided the Broncos to a 4-1 record in his five starts down the stretch. While his statistics varied from game to game, Lock took care of the ball and occasionally made some flashy plays. Despite being seen as a project when he was selected in the second round of 2019, Lock's numbers stacked up well with the quarterbacks chosen ahead of him. OK in the finale
Lock completed 17 of 28 passes for 177 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 16-15 win over the Raiders. He added 29 yards on six carries.
Analysis: For the second week in a row, the opposing defense forced Lock to dink and dunk and, with little success running the ball, the Broncos offense was out of rhythm for much of the game. One of the few exceptions came just before half time when, following a fumble recovery by Trey Marshall, Lock completed a big third-down pass over the middle to DaeSean Hamilton, drew a pass interference call with Courtland Sutton and then dumped it off to Andrew Beck on the next play for a one-yard score. Turnover-free during Week 16 win
Lock completed 25 of 33 pass attempts for 192 yards and a touchdown while accounting for 10 yards on his four rush attempts during Sunday's 27-17 win against Detroit.
Analysis: The rookie signal-caller rebounded from a shaky showing in his homecoming trip to Arrowhead Stadium in Week 15, logging his first NFL outing without a giveaway against a struggling Lions struggling defense Sunday. Lock had thrown one interception in each of his first three career starts coming into the contest, but Sunday he played turnover-free ball while leading two fourth-quarter scoring drives to overcome a 17-13 deficit. Struggles in homecoming
Lock completed 18 of 40 passes for 208 yards and an interception during Sunday's 23-3 loss in Kansas City. He added three yards on two carries.
Analysis: Lock's return to Missouri wasn't particularly welcoming as snow covered the field and the Chiefs' pass rush routinely got to the rookie passer before he was able to find an open target. The Missouri product had a nice 43-yard pass to fellow rookie Noah Fant to convert a second-quarter fourth-and-short, but Denver's receivers were otherwise unable to get open downfield before Lock was swarmed. Lock completed 18 of 28 pass attempts for 134 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception Sunday against the Chargers. He also carried three times for 15 yards in the 23-20 win.
Analysis: Making his first NFL start, Lock struggled to the tune of 4.8 yards per attempt while completing just one pass longer than 11 yards. He encouragingly showed a strong rapport with top wideout Courtland Sutton, with whom he connected for a pair of touchdowns in the first quarter. Officially activated
Lock (thumb) has officially been activated off injured reserve ahead of Sunday's game against the Chargers, but it remains unclear who will start under center between him and Brandon Allen, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Analysis: Although no official starting quarterback has been announced, Lock is considered the favorite to get the opportunity. The rookie took first-string reps at practice throughout the week, which indicates the Broncos are going to see what they have in their second-round pick. Both Joe Flacco (neck) and Allen struggled to get the offense moving this year, so we may have an opportunity to see if Lock has the key to jump-start it.

The Broncos will "definitely" activate Lock (thumb) from injured reserve ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Chargers, but Denver has yet to decide whether the rookie or Brandon Allen will start at quarterback in Week 13, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Newman notes that Denver is expected to choose a starter late Friday or at some point Saturday, but Lock looks like the overwhelming favorite to garner the nod. According to Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic, Lock took the first rep at every practice Wednesday through Friday, signaling that he's likely jumped ahead of Allen in the pecking order. Analysis: Per James Palmer of NFL Network, the Broncos increased Lock's reps to "about 75 percent of the offensive snaps in practice this week," an arrangement that points to Denver turning to the 2019 second-round pick over Brandon Allen in Week 13. In mix for Week 13 start
Coach Vic Fangio wouldn't commit to a starting quarterback between Lock (thumb) and Brandon Allen for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic reports. "As far as this week goes, all options are on the table," Fangio said Monday. "We'll make that decision in the next few days."
Analysis: The Broncos don't need to activate Lock from injured reserve until next Tuesday, Dec. 3, but Fangio indicated he may make the call before week's end. Fangio also told Jhabvala that "practice time ... just all that lost time and preparation" are the things holding him back from making the decision. Having said that, Fangio may be willing to expedite Lock's return to the 53-man roster after Allen completed just 10 of 25 passes for 82 yards and one interception during a Week 12 loss at Buffalo.

Coach Vic Fangio said Friday that it's possible Lock (thumb) could be activated from injured reserve Week 13, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
Analysis: Fangio said Lock has been "doing good when you factor in he hasn't done anything since August." Since being designated for return from IR on Nov. 12, Lock has worked with the scout team. 'Unlikely' for Week 12 activation
Coach Vic Fangio said it's "unlikely but possible" Lock (thumb) is activated from injured reserve in advance of Sunday's game at Buffalo, Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: In the event Lock does elevate to the 53-man roster, he'll be the backup to current starting quarterback Brandon Allen. Lock is expected to continue working with the scout team this week, much like he's done since he was designated for return from IR last Tuesday. Lock (thumb) returned to practice Tuesday, meaning he's one of the Broncos' two players designated to return from IR, Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: This is Lock's first time on the practice field since Aug. 19, as he's rehabbed a sprained thumb in his throwing hand. The Broncos are currently deploying Brandon Allen under center with Joe Flacco (neck) on IR, and they have until Week 14 against the Texans to activate Lock.
